दिक्देवताप्रणामम्

ॐ सुराधिपाय विद्महे वज्रहस्ताय धीमहि तन्नो इंद्रः प्रचोदयात् ।।

*प्राच्यै दिशे इंद्राय नमः ।। 

ॐ जातवेदाय विद्महे सप्तहस्ताय धीमहि तन्नो अग्निः प्रचोदयात् ।। 

*आग्नेय्यै दिशे आग्नये नमः ।। 

ॐ पितृराजाय विद्महे दंडहस्ताय धीमहि तन्नो यमः प्रचोदयात् ।। 

*दक्षिणायै दिशे यमाय नमः ।। 

ॐ रक्षोधिपाय विद्महे खड्गहस्ताय धीमहि तन्नो निर्ऋतिः प्रचोदयात् ।। 

*नैर्ऋत्यै दिशे नैर्ऋतये नमः ।। 

ॐ जलाधिपाय विद्महे पाशहस्ताय धीमहि तन्नो वरूणः प्रचोदयात् ।। 

*प्रतीच्यै दिशे वरूणाय नमः ।। 

ॐ प्राणाधिपाय विद्महे महाबलाय धीमहि तन्नो वायुः प्रचोदयात् ।। 

*वायव्यै दिशे वायवे नमः ।। 

ॐ नक्षत्रेशाय विद्महे अमृतांगाय धीमहि तन्नो सोमः प्रचोदयात् ।। 

*उदीच्यै दिशे सोमाय नमः ।। 

ॐ तत्पुरूषाय विद्महे महादेवाय धीमहि तन्नो रूद्रः प्रचोदयात् ।। 

*ईशान्यै दिशे ईश्वराय नमः ।। 

ॐ लोकाधिपाय विद्महे चतुर्वक्त्राय धीमहि तन्नो ब्रह्म प्रचोदयात् ।। 

*ऊर्ध्वायै दिशे ब्रह्मणे नमः ।। 

ॐ नागराजाय विद्महे सहस्त्राक्षाय धीमहि तन्नो नागः प्रचोदयात् ।। 

*अधरायै दिशे अनंताय नमः ।।

Praachyay dishe Indraaya namah |

We devote our thought to the head of the Devas Indra; We meditate on the one with thunderbolt in his hand; May that Indra energize us. Salutations to Indra in the Poorva(eastern) direction.

 

Aum Jaatavedaaya vidmahe |

Saptahastaaya dheemahi |

Tanno Agni prachodayaat ||

Aagneyyay dishe Agnaye namah |

We devote our thought to that Jaatavedas Fire; We meditate on the one with seven hands (indicating the seven flames)May the Agni, the fire godenergize us. Salutations to Agni in the Aagneya (south-eastern) direction.

Aum Pitruraajaaya vidmahe |

Dandahastaaya dheemahi |

Tanno Yamah prachodayaat ||

Dakshinaayai dishe Yamaaya namah |

We devote our thought to the lord of our ancestors YamaWemeditate on him, who has sceptre in his hand; May that Yamagod of death, energize us. Salutations to Yama in the Dakshina (southern) direction.

Aum Rakshodhipaaya vidmahe |

Khadgahastaaya dheemahi |

Tanno Nirruti prachodayaat ||

Nairrutyai dishe Nairrutyaaya namah |

We devote our thought to the controller of the demonic forces NirRti; We meditate on the one wielding the sword; May that NirRti energize us. Salutations to NirRti in theNaiRtya(south-western) direction.  

Aum Jalaadhipaaya vidmahe |

Paashahastaaya dheemahi |

Tanno Varuna prachodayaat ||

Prateechyai dishe Varunaaya namah |

We devote our thought on the controller of water Varuna; We meditate on the one holding the binding rope; May that Varuna, the rain god, energize us. Salutations to Varuna in the Pashchima(western) direction.

Aum Praanaadhipaaya vidmahe |

Mahaabalaaya dheemahi |

Tanno Vaayu prachodayaat ||

Vaayavyai dishe Vaayave namah |

We devote our thought to the controller of life-breath Vayu; We. meditate on the one who is of supreme strength; May that Vayu, the wind god, energize us. Salutations to Vayu in the Vaayavya (north-western) direction. 

Aum Nakshatreshaaya vidmahe |

Amritaangaaya dheemahi |

Tanno Soma prachodayaat ||

Uddechyai dishe Somaaya namah|

We devote our thought to the lord of stars Soma; We meditate on the immortal bodied oneMay that Soma, the moon, energize us. Salutations to Soma in the Uttara(north) direction.

Aum Tatpurushaaya vidmahe |

Mahaadevaaya dheemahi |

Tanno Rudra prachodayaat ||

Easaanyai dishe Easwaraaya namah |

We devote our thought to that Tatpurusha one of the fiveforms of the supreme spirit; We meditate on the Supreme Lord MahadevaMay that Rudra energize us. Salutations to Eshwara in the Eshaanya (north-eastern) direction.

Aum Lokaadhipaaya vidmahe |

Chaturhastaaya dheemahi |

Tanno Brahma prachodayaat ||

Oordhvaayai dishe Brahmane namah |

We devote our thought to the ruler of theUniverse Brahma; We meditate on the one with four hands; May that Brahma energize us. Salutations to Brahma in theOordhva(upper )direction.

Aum Naagaraajaaya vidmahe |

Sahasraakshaaya dheemahi |

Tanno Naaga prachodayaat ||

Adharrayai dishe Anantaaya namah |

We devote our thought to the King of Serpents AnantaWe meditate on the one with thousand eyes; May that Naaga, the snake god, energize us. Salutations to Ananta in the Adhas (lower)direction.

sAmrAjya-prada-hanumantaM – the giver (प्र+दा “दा दाने”) of an empire (साम्राज्य) to                                                                                Hanuman (हनुमन्त);  The empire given to Hanuman may be interpreted as the embrace Rama gave him in gratitude for news from Sita, or “Rama-bhakti-Samrajya” – the realm of devotion;  Or it can be taken as Rama, who is seen with Hanuman, who is a giver of great riches.

nAka-ISa-nutaM        – the one worshipped (नुत) by Indra, the lord (ईश)  of heaven (नाक)
anantaM                     – the eternal one (अनन्त)
nara-guru-guha-viharantam – the one who sports (वि+हृ “हृञ् हरणे”) in (the hearts of) humans (नर) and the author, Muthuswami Dikshitar, who has the blessings of Guruguha (गुरुगुह); or one who sports among the men (नर), Gurus (गुरु) and in the caves (गुह) of the forests; or one who revels in the hearts of men (नर) and Lord Muruga (गुरुगुह).
